Building Homes or Extensions/Frame section separating from stone section of house

Question
I have a house that was built in three sections. The first two sections are stone and were built in the 18th and 19th centuries. A frame section was added around 1905. When standing on the 2nd floor, you can see where the frame section is beginning to lean away from the stone section. What type of expert would I need to get to analyze and repair this? What type of repair might be needed?

Answer
Hi David, a structural engineer or P.E. is probably your best bet at the beginning.  He can look at the foundations and other factors involved with the problem.  As far as repairs go, it might require some jacking up of the frame addition somehow and possibly some new foundation work on that side and then some work to tie the framed section to the stone or masonry section.  I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
