Question
We had a contractor put an addition on the back of our home and put 18x18 tiles on the flooring but the floor is so cold you cannot walk on it. We have been told so namy different ways to insulate the floor we don't know who to believe or what to do can you help? How should we  handle this problem. Thank you

Answer
Hi jane, I'm not sure what you are hearing.  But your floor insulation should be at least r-19 (6") or r-30 (10") fiberglass batt insulation. I like the thickness of insulation to match the thickness of the floor joists.
Most insulation installers staple the insulation up to the floor sheathing and then hang fiberglass mesh underneath to keep it in place.  Contact a local insulation contractor, it's usually cheaper to have them do the work that it is to buy the insulation yourself and crawl under the house to install it.  I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
