Question
my hardi backer board got soaking wet.. with a plumbing mishap.. now my contractor is wanting to lay tile on it. should it dry out first? or should it be replaced with new dry hardi backboard.. thanks..

Jim

Answer
Hi jim, it shouldn't need to be replaced but it should at least dry out some. It probably doesn't need to be bone dry because it will continue to dry even after the tile work but it will dry faster before the tile goes on. If you have a way to look inside the wall cavity you might want to make sure that the inside of the wall cavity is fairly dry also before sealing it all up with the tile.   I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
