Building Homes or Extensions/Raising building on slab foundation

Question
Dan,
Is it possible to raise a building on a slab foundation in order to meet new flood requirements? The building is 60'x60'. I hope this isn't a stupid question but I had to ask.
Thanks

Answer
Robert, probably not.  There is a chance that it was a post tension foundation that could be picked up, but it would be very unusual.  Slab floors/foundations typically are designed to bear on the soil so the floor reinforcement and thickness can't make the spans involved.  You don't tell what kind of building - either its use or construction type.  YOur very best answer would be to contact a house mover in your area.  They will know whether the thing can be picked up or  not.  If they know your area, they might be able to answer by phone.
