Building Homes or Extensions/Red Cedar Tree

Question
I have recently cut down a red cedar tree that was close to forty feet tall. I am going to use it in my house as a center point for constructing my roof supports. Two and a half feet will be in the ground with concrete. The house is pier and beam so all together 4'10" will be underneath the house. I am wrapping the part in the ground and under the house with a plastic. From my floor to my roof the tree will be 19'. I am going to peel the bark off and sand it and then layer it with a polyurethane. How long should I let this tree dry before setting it? I know it sounds unusual but it is going to be very elegant once I am done with it.  A nice center point for the house. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Kenny,
First let me say that I don't think it unusual. I have always liked and encouraged anything other than the norm!
I would think if you could keep it under cover for a year after peeling it would be okay to use... you may see some drying checks as it dries, but that will just add to the character.

Best of luck,
Dave
