Question
one of the springs on  a pull down attic ladder has come off . I can put it back in place but it will not stay. I able to when the spring is on to close the ladder but when it comes off I can't. HELP I am loosing energy and constatly banging my head.  thank-you S

Answer
The best solution is to replace the pull down stair.

If you want to try to repair, look carefully at the spring that does not come off.  There must be something different on the bad side.  You might need to file a notch a bit deeper or close a loop that is bent.  Without seeing it, I can't help much, but when spring driven mechanisms fail they can be dangerous.  Act accordingly.
