Building Homes or Extensions/proper construction of chimney

Question
I have a boilermate furnace.  It uses a stovepipe vented to an outside chimney (approx 6 feet away at a 45 degree angle.  The stovepipe connector that is inserted into the chimney corrodes.  It was replaced a couple of years ago and is again showing corrosion.  How should the chimney, vent have been constructed?

Answer
Lauren, I am not the best source for information on this issue.  There is a great deal of condensation generated by warm exhaust in a cold atmosphere.  Many of the new high efficiency units use PVC for vent stacks because of the condensation and acids.  Some systems use stainless steel.  Perhaps the condition can be helped by a powered vent that pushes out the heat during and after firing.  I would contact a local HVAC contractor, even the one that installed the present system.  These guys deal with this stuff every day.
