Building Homes or Extensions/Lattice Patio cover

Question
Dan - I'm plannig to install an aluminum (alumawod) patio cover - I have a U shaped patio with three walls 15' apart and 11 feet deep (to open end).  My house is wood with siding.  I'd like to have ledger boards running along each leg, then 15' joints across, then 2x2's the long way - this should work with the sun's arc. My questions - can I bolt the ledger board to the 2x4's through the fiber siding and run the joists across attached to the boards with U hangers.  We don't get snow, and the top is not solid.
Thanks!!

Answer
Saul,  that's a nice system.  I enjoyed looking at their site.  I looked very briefly at their resources/engineering link.  YOu will probably need this if you intend to work with a building permit.  I didn't see a house side attachment detailed, but I think you should look through to find one if possible.  Your plan will work.  I would take the time to find the actual studs and I would space the ledger away from the siding to allow the condition to dry after a rain.  It can be spaced with shim stock, pieces of PVC pipe or similar just enough to allow air circulation.
