Building Homes or Extensions/Mobile Home Question

Question
Hello, I have a 1958 Anderson Mobile Home with a wall in the kitchen that is bulging out around the window due to rotten wood framework.  It's gotten really bad in one spot, where I'm certain if one leaned against it, they might just fall through it.  I've checked around top and bottom to make sure there is no leak from the roof, the rot seems to come from a small leak around the window as there is no damage above or below, which is the good news.  I'm confident the repair won't be too difficult, but I don't want to start removing the paneling until I have the wood to replace the supports inside.  What my question comes down to is this.  I know it's not standard 2x4 framing, I was wondering if you might know what size lumber I would need to repair the structure?  Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Michael,
Considering the age I would suspect 2"x3" or even 2"x2".
They were usually at 24" o.c. with "let-in" strapping.
I would suggest buying 2"x3" and some strapping. Then, if the studs are 2"x2"...just turn the studs sideways and you'll be fine...
I hope this is clear, if not please mail me back... best of luck!

Dave

O.C. Means "on center" as in 24" center to center on your studs.
most framing today is 16" o.c. older homes/trailers are often 24"
