Question
I am pushing my outside kitchen wall and would like to leave a 20'open span. is a 3 1/2" x 10"x 20' power beam sufficient if i support it on both ends with 6x6's  down to a solid foundation.  There is a second floor and a roof that this would have to hold up.

Answer
hi Richard,
i'm not exactly sure what you mean by a "power" beam.  but if you're talking about either a glue-lam or truss joist type it is not enough.
you'll need at least a 14" deep by 6" wide glue-lam or equal.

you are supporting a LOT of weight there...
