Building Homes or Extensions/Turning my deck into a three season porch
Expert: Dave Johnson - 6/16/2008
QuestionQUESTION: I was wondering if you could help me out with a few questions i had about the cost of turning my deck into a three season porch. My deck is 16x14 and my so it is roughly 600 square feet which would ad a lot of value to our home plus a nice place to sit and read in the sping and summer. I guess I was hoping you could just give me a rough estimate on the cost of such a project assuming I did most of the work myself except for the electricity and the HVAC work.
Thanks for taking the time to read this

ANSWER: Hi Jeff,
If you will tell me what the interior and exterior will be finished with, I'll be happy to work you up an ESTIMATE.
Also, I will need to know what the roofing is and if you will be attaching to a sidewall or onto an existing roof...

QUESTION: Dave,
The interior will be drywall and either carpet or hardwood floor and the outside will be steel siding and it attaches to the back side of my house and to the roof.
AnswerJeff,
I'm assuming the deck is going to be 14' out from the house and 16' along the house. Also, that the deck is strong enough to support the new work.
Wall frame,ceiling joists,rafters,roof and wall sheathing:$ 1,000.00
Windows will run about $200.00 each for 32" x 52"
A door would average $ 300 - 400
Roofing is $60.00 per square for asphalt, $120.00 for screw-on steel.
(a square is 100 square feet or 10'x10')
drywall for the walls and ceiling is $300 plus mud and tape.
You should be able to get all your interior trim for about $300.00
To be really accurate, I'd need to know a lot more than this, but you have a "ball park" number to go by...
