Building Homes or Extensions/Crack in brick

Question
Hi Dan, I own a single story house that is about 10 years old and i have recently noticed a crack in the brick on the outside of my home. The crack runs from the very top all the way to the bottom. It is about a 1/4" to 3/4" of an inch at the top and about an 1/8" at the bottom. What do you think caused this and what can i do to repair this? The house sits on a concrete slab in the Texas Hill Country.

Please Help,
Jerry

Answer
Jerry, the cause is settling or movement in the footing.  I will bet you have ads on TV for foundation lifting.  We have several here, no particular recommendation, but names like ram jack, perma jack, etc.

Clay soils, not letting footings settle, etc are all contributing factors.
