Building Homes or Extensions/cracks on bricks

Question
Hi, Dan

Our house was built in 2005. Recently I noticed that there are stair-step cracks on our exterior walls at two places, both running from below the window to the ground. Should we be worried about it? what should we do?

thank you,
-Baiyu"

Answer
Baiyu, the footing is settling.  This situation in not wonderful, but it also not unusual.  Your best solution would be to contact a foundation jacking or repair contractor in your area.  An honest one should advise you of different solutions, other work in the vicinity. and realistic need.  There are very good contractors, but there are also alarmists.  Talk to two or more.
