Building Homes or Extensions/where to start

Question
Hi Dave. Half of my unfinished basement was fixed up by an amateur, me, without permits or inspections. Now that we're planning to sell the home, I suspect I have serious back-tracking to do, especially where the electrical system is concerned. I'm prepared for about anything, including tearing it all out, but I want to begin the process in the most efficient way possible. Should I start with an electrician, or maybe a building inspector? Thanks very much.

Answer
Hi Dave,
If you're concerned about any repercussions regarding the inspector,
start with him and if questioned, tell him the renovations were done before you owned the home.
Otherwise, if you're just wanting to go the cheapest route, tear it all out yourself. An electrician is going to be pricey just to remove wiring.
If you want more, please ask...
Good luck,

Dave
