Question
I am building a 2-story residence. The first floor is concrete block. I would like to know if it is necessary or better to top the block with  double 2x8 wood caps or if 1 2x8 cap is enough anchor board[s] for the second floor flat trusses & 2x6 framing?

Answer
Hi terry, a single 2x8 mudsill is really all that is needed. I am assuming that the top of the masonry is filled solid and has a bond beam at that level.  Everything will be bearing on the 2x8 in compression so unless you need to elevate the bearing point above a single plate then the one will I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.comsuffice.
