Subject: stucco

Question
On the new housing where stucco is the preferred type of siding, columns made of styrofoam and/or beadboard on the corners and also along the bottom of the house, what or how is the stucco applied.  From what I see, a fiberglass mesh is applied over the styrofoam and then the scratch coat is applied.  What is the proper proceedure????

Answer
Jim,

You are correct that a lathe is fixed to the backboard to allow bonding and a key for the stucco or render.
Depending on the specification it can be wire galvanised lathe ,plastic mesh  or as you have described fibreglass mesh.
Specification and application differs but they are all basically the same principal.

Regard's
Bill
