Building Homes or Extensions/small addition footings

Question
Im doing a 8x8 mud room addition onto my existing house.  What kind of footings should i use and how deep.

Answer
Hi jim, it depends on where you live.  Most northern states have deep freezes and it is best to put you concrete footings below the recognized frost line for the area.  If you live in  a warmer climate you can get by with a shallower footing depth, 8-12" below grade 16" wide X 12" deep or even a monolithic concrete slab with a thickened edge 12" wide x 12" deep.. I hope this information helps please feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
