Question
i saw some your discussions and would like to know once i locate the studs do i locate them every 16 inches after and put a lag bolt in. and also what size of drill do i use to locate these studs.

Answer
Hi chris, If your studs are laid out at 16" on center then the answer to the first part of your question is yes.  You can use a stud finder on the inside of the wall to verify your stud layout.  A concrete drill bit will be needed to drill through the brick.  If you are using a 1/2" lag bolt then you need to use a 9/16" concrete bit to get through the brick. Once through the brick a 3/8" wood drill bit should be used to predrill the stud for the lag bolt.  Make sure your lag bolt is 3" longer than the depth of the brick to ensure adequate embedment.  I hope this information helps.  Please feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
