Building Homes or Extensions/siding over concrete blocks

Question

Concrete-Blocks
My home's lower basement level has 2 small walls constructed
with flower-patterned ornamental concrete blocks (see
attached photo).  I would like to attach siding to cover up
the unsightly blocks as well as seal the walls from the
elements.  I was wondering if I would be able to use an adhesive
to attach the siding to the blocks instead of using concrete
nails or screws.  The concrete blocks are quite brittle and
I am afraid of the concrete chipping away.  Is T-111 siding okay for this project?  Also, what type of flashing do I use at the top? I might add that I live in Oregon where it rains a lot.

Answer
Hi Jack,
Sure, you could use t-111. Go to your lumber supplier and ask for the best adhesive for this application. (there are so many brands I'd not know which might be in your area)
You may also want to scrape away any loose paint/mortar to ensure good bonding.
Its going to be tough to flash the top. I would use a flashing that covers the top of t-111, down the face at least 1/2" and up the concrete an inch. glue it on, and after all priming is done, caulk any open or loose spots. You would also want to backpaint the t-111.

Best of luck,

Dave
