Building Homes or Extensions/additions

Question
Bruce:

I am interested in expanding a kitchen by adding new foundation (slab) to the existing, tearing out the outer wall, and of course extending the roof/walls as needed, about an additional 4' x 22' of new foundation to be tied to the 'old'.  Existing foundation has 12 bell-bottom, steel reinforced concrete piers on aprx 7' centers supporting the existing slab/ourter beams.  If we pour the new slab with similar dimensions, beam depths, piers, etc. assuming soil is properly compacted, might we expect reasonable stability and minimal movement between the two slabs if properly epoxied/doweled with rebar, etc. when we make the new pour?  Please advise.  Thank you

Answer
Hi Steven, yes, with the proper compaction of your sub grade and similar sized footings tied into the existing you should be fine.I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
