Question
I live in a CBC condo building. We are told since the windows are old they threaten the structurl integrity of the building and must be replaced with hurricane glass. Are windows normally part of the load-bearing strucure? Thank you.

Answer
Hi Gene, no the windows are not part of the structural support in a building. What is probably being referred to is that if the windows blow out during a storm the interior of the building is then jeopardized by the wind and can literally blow apart from the inside.  You have other options unless it is a condo board decision.  Hurricane shutters is a good alternative.  With shutters your glass is protected from the wind and flying debris.   I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
