Building Homes or Extensions/taping vaulted ceilings

Question
What is the best way to keep the peak of a vaulted ceiling from popping. I have done it twice now and both times the edges have popped loose.

Answer
Hi Chris, gee I guess we need to look at your roof system.  If you are using vaulted scissor trusses you need to make sure all of your engineering is in place for starters.  I also prefer to "cat" between the joists with 2x4's on both sides of the peak to provide solid backing at these areas so that you can screw the peak with a six inch spacing.  If you are not using scissor trusses and you have hand framed rafters then you need to make sure that your rafters are properly sized for their respective spans and that you have solid bridging at eight foot spacing and again catted at the peak (both sides).   I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
