Question
QUESTION: Hi Sir,
The house i am constructing is in the finishing stages now and the contractor i hired proposed 2 types of cornerbeads and groove lines for use in plastering, namely galvanised and PVC.I wish to ask your expert opinions on which type is better in terms of efficiency and quality of finish. Thank you

ANSWER: Shawn, my strong personal preference is for the plastic.  A metal outside corner that is clinched on can and often will pop loose for several feet if something hits the corner bead.  I've not ever had plastic beads pop loose.  I do use spray glue AND staples.

QUESTION: Thank you for the prompt reply.Sir.Just another question on efficiency. The contractor was lamenting about how the job will be done faster and better if cornerbeads are used when I told them to do it without the cornerbeads because I will have to foot the cost of the products myself. What's your take on using these so-called cornerbeads?I don't want to spend unnecssarily as I am already spent over my budget.Thank you

Answer
Shawn, how many corners could you possibly have?  I wouldn't tape an outside corner for love nor money.  It probably wouldn't be straight, would require many more trips to the wall, and the corners will always be fragile.  Get the corner beads and get done.
