Building Homes or Extensions/New construction costs

Question
Hi there, I live in Iowa and am looking into building a new home on an acreage.  I was wondering what a ballpark cost on having the basic utilities installed will cost me.   Such as having electricity brought in, well located and dug, septic system ran.  I know that location to existing utilities and soil composition will affect the cost, but I was hoping to get a general idea prior to buying a property in order to figure in some of that cost.  Any info you can give me would be helpful!  Thanks for your time - Dave

Answer
Dave,

Costs will vary greatly depending on the factors that you mention.  You will probably get better answers by asking builders and residents in your local area, however, in my experience the ranges might be:

Power: $2000-$10,000+ depending how far it is run
Drilled well: $3000-$6000+ depending on groundwater level
Septic: $3000-$5000+ depending on size of structure and soil type

I hope this helps.  -Ted.
