Building Homes or Extensions/double wide

Question
I am looking to buy a double wide on a river in pa for my vacation home. It is approx. 30 yrs. old. The biggest issue I have with it is that the ceiling is only approx. 7' high. I'm not familiar with the framing of a double wide so i dont know how difficult it would be to raise the ceiling. I would also like to use sheetrock instead of tiles. Will the frame support that?

Answer
Hi Steve,
It would be easy to use drywall on the ceiling. Just remove all the tiles and staples, check the strapping and make sure it is secure.

As far as the raising of the ceilin, I doubt thats possible. The strapping is more than likely up against the joists. But, you could check once the tiles are removed.
