Building Homes or Extensions/Foundation stabilization

Question
Bruce,

I have a 10,000 psi hydraulic ram system for driving piles under the footers of my home to stabilize the foundation (27 years old with enough settling(clay over sandy loam) to warrant attention). Due to the complexities of various patented systems, those components are not readily available to a homeowner. Is there a company from which I can purchase pre-cast pier products for driving custom piles? The going commercial rates for installing such a system are much too expensive. Being an engineer(not structural) as well as a handy man, I have the knowledge to perform such a task, but I need a source for the components. I will appreciate any suggestions.

Answer
Hi Sam, any piling manufacturer will provide you with the size pilings you need.  Precast concrete companies, certain marine contractors, bridge piling suppliers..I'm not sure this is what you need though. It seems to me that the act of driving pilings this close to your structure may cause unwanted vibratory damage to your house.  Have you thought about undermining the foundation and pumping concrete underneath in new oversized footings? I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
