Building Homes or Extensions/Removed Paneling

Question
I've just finished removing paneling from a bedroom -it went halfway up the wall - they (thankfully) didn't use glue - but there is a pretty big paint ridge along the top of where the paneling was - can I sand that or will I need to use drywall tape and mud? I want a smooth finish after I paint. Thanks!

Answer
Christine, if you can see any blemish before you paint it will be more noticeable after paint.  I would use a paint scraper followed with some touch up spackle or joint compound.  Are you sure the walls are smooth - an unusual condition unless there had been wall paper?  It might be best to plan a light roller texture on the entire wall.  If the walls are truly smooth, skim coat any blemishes with drywall compound, sand lightly or use a damp sponge to avoid the dust, and then paint.  Areas that have different gloss or no paint will require more coats to give an even sheen to the wall.
