Building Homes or Extensions/Shelving in a Double Wide

Question
I just moved into a double wide trailer with my fiancee for our school break however with the small space and my extensive library I need more space for all my books. I figured that installing a shelf or two in our office would work nicely, however I've always lived in an actual home so living in a trailer like this is new for me. I'm planning on installing at least two shelves 3-4 feet long. I have some experience with installing shelving and I already have a stud finder and the power tools neccessary, however since I'm used to regular homes with sheetrock I'm unsure of additional materials I should buy: is there anything I should be aware of when buying materials for these particular walls? (they're made of some sort of composite plastic I think, much thinner than sheetrock though) Also, since these shelves will be holding a significant amount of weight, besides installing the supports on the studs is there any other precautions I should take so they don't collapse under the weight of the books?

Thank you for the advice!!

Answer
Hi Samantha, most mobile homes, especially the double wides have regular studs in the walls so I don't see a problem with installing book shelves as long as you anchor the shelves to the wall studs.   Another excellant shelving system involves a rail mounted on the stud that your shelf brackets snap into.   These can be found at most big box building supply stores.  I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
