Question
Hello, I am building a 14'wide 23' long building. When I start the roof how can I span the 14' without use of a posts. Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi Vic, you can use engineered trusses for one thing. Contact your local roof truss company for further information and costs.  They are cheap and easily attainable depending on your locaton of course.  Or you can hand frame the roof with regular lumber using 2x8 rafters.  When you put a ridge down the middle of a roof your span is cut in half so in this case your span will be 7' so a 2x8 rafter will easily suffice...if lumber is hard to come by in your area a 2x6 southern yellow pine or douglas fir rafter will work depending on the weight of the roofing involved.  I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
