Question
Sir
I have to design a ramp for forklifter to approach our Ware house which FFL is +5', Please advise me how much length of ramp is required??? when height is 5'. what is standard formula to calculate slope. Thanks and regards

Muhammad Azam

Answer
Hi Muhammad Azam, generally speaking you can go 4-6" rise per foot of run. So a ramp would need to be either 15 feet long at 4" rise or 10 feet long at 6" rise. it depends on how much room you have and what the specs for the forklift require.  If the forklift is rated for a 30% slope at full weight capacity then you can design the slope accordingly.  If there are extreme weights involved by forward moving lifts going down ramps then you need to design a less severe of an incline based on manufacturers specs.   I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
