Question
Is it possible to build a deck onto a house which is built on a slab using a floating foundation system?  They look pretty easy to install.

Thanks so much

Answer

SIMPLE PRESSURE TREATE
Hi Jean, of course it is.  All you need is about six inches between the elevation of the surrounding yard and the top of the new deck.  If you don't have enough elevation you can terrace out of your house and step up to a higher deck.  But as long as you have at least 6" you can build a 2x4 pressure treated frame and support it with precast footing block laid into the soil and then you shim up to the 2x4 joist.  2x4's as deck joists need to be supported at least every four feet and spaced at most 24" apart. Please see attached diagrams....I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
