Building Homes or Extensions/railing height

Question
I live in Los Angeles and we are constructing a new patio and upper deck.  My
framer tells me the railing has to be 42" tall and that seems high.  Do you know
the building code for our area regarding the height of a wood railing?
Thank you!

Answer
Hi Ann, 42" is a standard almost anywhere in the country.  The railing should have pickets every 4" apart unless you are using glass or some other solid substance.. I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
