Building Homes or Extensions/Garage addition

Question
Bruce, we would like to add a 11'-6" garage to the side of our current 3-car garage.  With 11'-0" inside dim. for a 10'-2" RO for the door, we will only have an 11" fdn. wall on the outside end and have to add an 5" stem wall on the existing garage side.  Meridian Idaho code requires a 1'-4" min. stem wall for a hurricane strap.  Is there anyway to get around this with drilling rebar into the existing garage wall fdn?  Thanks,  Donn Hessman

Answer
Hi Donn, I don't have the whole story here.  Why is there a stem wall in a garage?  What is the existing garage built of?  What will the new garage be constructed of? Wood?  Masonry?  Seems to me that you could just pour a monolithic garage slab and attach your framing to the slab without having to do a stem wall.  Get back to me and I can answer more fully with better information , sincerely bruce e johnson
