Building Homes or Extensions/croncrete block

Question
I would like to know if it is possible to insulate an existing home where the exterior walls are concrete block. or would I need to timber frame the interior side of the concrete block and add insulation that way?

Answer
Hi Toni, if it is available in your area there are foam injection systems that insulation companies have that will foam fill the cells of the masonry.  In my home in Florida, my masonry walls have a layer of one inch thick rigid foam stuck on the walls with a foil backing facing inside.  Then 1x2 furring strips are nailed on top of the insulation into the masonry.  Or you can build a false wall and insulate, but that is a lot of extra work and cost.  I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
