Question
Hi,
I am a student of architecture , studying in india.I wanted to know about the use of slate as cladding material for exteriors in a multistory housing.is it advisable for climate of Delhi, india. What are the different methods applied.

Answer
Poorva,  I am not familiar with typical exterior finishes in India.  There are different grades and quality of slate.  It has been used as a roofing material for centuries so I am sure it can work well outdoors.  A typical application would be to have it nailed on just as shingles, lapping joints on successive rows.  It is fairly heavy and I would think there would be alternate materials that would be faster and easier with which to work.  It would certainly qualify as a "green" material.

I'm sorry I don't have much other information to offer.
