Building Homes or Extensions/18 foot clearspan

Question
I am looking to remove a 13' load bearing wall that currently has a standard (36") cased opening on each end. This will make my total opening 19', ceiling joists are 2X6s. Can I use a triple 2X8X20' for the beam or would I be better off with a flitch beam? if so, how do I build a flitch beam?

Thanks.

Answer
Flynn, I don't think the triple 2x8 is remotely large enough for that kind of span.  I am pretty sure it will sag from its own weight. I am not a structureal engineer but here is some information on flitch beams:

YOu might also look into LVL or steel.  In fact, a metal stud built up beam might be best.  Sorry I can't help more, but 20' is beyond "seat of the pants" engineering and "rule of thumb".
