Building Homes or Extensions/Limestone steps cracking

Question
Dear Bruce,
I had limestone steps installed with a railing and a couple of weeks later, the limestone cracked around the railing holes. Is this common or is there something wrong with the limestone?

Answer
Hi Terry, limestone is pretty soft and subject to cracking under various circumstances.  I can't say for sure exactly why the stone cracked at the post holes, it is possible that the posts are moving a bit and this could be why the stone cracked.  I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
