Building Homes or Extensions/backsplash

Question
The walls in my house are plastered covered shiplap and I was wondering if I can apply a backsplash directly to the wall; or do I need to put up a backboard first?  Thank you!

Answer
Hi Jessica, I can't think of any reason you can't apply a backsplash directly to the plaster.  Tile and other materials stick just fine to plastered surfaces as long as the paint on the surface isn't falling off because the backsplash is really going to be stuck to whatever paint is on the wall and not to the wall itself.  I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson.. bejohnsonconsulting.com
