Building Homes or Extensions/humidity

Question
Bruce, I had an addition on the back of my house. It was built on a crawlspace where there was 6" gravel then plastic before 4" concrete floor. This year it rained almost every day in June. My humidity in my basement & the new crawlspace is about 75. I run a dehumidifer and it brings it down to 45 to 50 percent. My wife thinks that is still to high. Is it? Also shut the vents on the crawlspace walls be opened or closed in the summer ?
Thanks,
Sal

Answer
Hi Sal, 45-50% is perfect in my book.  If it has been at 70 or higher for a length of time it might take a while to get the damp or musty smell out of the air.  I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
