Building Homes or Extensions/stairway stringers

Question
My stairway stringers are stained a dark oak. My stairs are carpet. I want to veneer a clear oak on them. Is this possible, I want to change the color on them with out painting.

Answer
Hi Bob, Without seeing your exact stair construction, I would have to say yes you can veneer your stairs.  You have to be careful with stair treads because by adding a board to the tread you are increasing the height of your bottom step. Other than that I can't think of any reason you can't do what you want to do. I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
