Building Homes or Extensions/Extension floor

Question
I want to add an extension using a concrete slab floor, as it butts up to an existing slab floor. The ground it will be laid on has a sewer pipe underneath, maybe 2-3 feet down. Do I need to protect this pipe in anyway first?

thanks,

Answer
Hi Brian, building your addition over the pipe should pose no problems.  The pipe is already protected by three feet of dirt.  You might want to make a simple drawing of the new slab and the pipe's location for future reference in case it needs to be located for some reason. You didn't mention if there is a clean-out involved.  Most sewer pipes have a cleanout within five feet of the building.  I hope this information helps, please feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
