Building Homes or Extensions/Gap around windows

Question
I own a 3 year old stucco house. I am noticing the stucco is moving away from the windows as far as 1/8 inch. Can these cause water penetration problems? How would I repair?

Answer
Hi Jim, the best repair for this problem is to use a good urethane caulk and caulk around the windows.  The gappage you are seeing is probably related to stucco shrinkage due to contraction and expansion.  That's why I like urethane caulk it remains flexible to move with the stucco.  I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
