Building Homes or Extensions/Tenant separation

Question
I am designer in Orlando fl, and am working on a commercial project. It is 2 tenant build-outs, one is going to be a medical office and the adjacent space a pharmacy, I want to know what would be the tenant separation (1 or 2 hr). Also the owner wants a door between the 2 spaces, Is this possible?. The building has a sprinkler system.

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Carlos, it depends on the type of costruction for the building in question and usage.  One hour should be sufficient with proper egress and exit signage.  As far as a door goes, if the door is designed to meet the wall rating then I don't see why a door can't be installed unless it is going to be used as a form of egress.  Two separate tenants will want to be able to lock their side of the door preventing anyone from the other side to enter, this would make the use of the door as egress improbable. Regardless of my comments you will have to clear your design with the local officials at permitting.  I hope this information helps please feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
