Building Homes or Extensions/framing

Question
I have a stick framed 7/12 gable roof on a one story house that is 14' deep x 30' wide w/ ridge parallel to the 30'. Looking at one side of the roof can I continue the roof plane at the same pitch from the existing ridge to where it would intersect the vertical plane of the far exterior wall and set a structural ridge over the existing foundation thus creating a "shed" roof portion. I would obviously need to verify the foundation and new ridge support with an engineer. This would allow me to put an addition on the rear with one roof over all. Remember the house is only 14' deep so it's not that big.
