Building Homes or Extensions/header opening

Question
I am building a garage and I am using roof trusses. The garage door will be an 18' opening on the gable end.  Do I need a laminated beam header, do I need a header at all.  The wall holds no weight because I will be using trusses.

Answer
Hi Jeff, I would definitely recommend a beam.  You will need a beam if you ever want to install a garage door opener or garage doors period.  Plus  you will need something to finish the garage door off at the top and without the thickness of a beam you will not be happy with the look..I hope this information helps, please feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
