Question
I own a 1995 Palm Harbor 18 x 80 mobile home. It is a single-wide. I want to add a 10 - 12" overhang the length of the home (on both sides) so I can install a metal roof.  Someone told me the roof is constructed of 2 x 2....Is this true?????

Answer
Hi Michael, Most single wide mobile homes that have a bowed roof are made from 2x2's.  If the roof is peaked or pitched in a house style of roof then they are made from 2x3 or 2x4 trusses.  For a complete specification of your particular model you can contact the company they have a very user friendly website..www.palmharbor.com....As far as your adding an overhang and a metal roof, this is usually done with a roofover structure where you actually build a supported beam on each side of the home and then set manufactured trusses from beam to beam. I hope this information helps, please feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
