Question
Hello Bruce,
I would like to put a car lift in my garage on one side of our 2.5 car garage.  I do have a 11.5 foot ceiling. Both of the vehicles combined will be around 7,500 pounds. a convertible mustang and a volvo sedan.  I am not sure about the 4 foot lift weight.  I have a clay base under the floor. Am I safe to do this?

Answer
Hi mike, your soil composition probably isn't that big of factor.  Any hydraulic type lift of this sort will have its own foundation and shaft capableo of supporting and maintaining the weight.  I don't get the purpose.  With 11.5 feet you will only be able to lift the vehicles six feet maximum.   Anyhow, your soil will be taken into consideration by the lift company and the lift will be designed accordingly.  Sincerely bruce e johnson
