Question
just purchase a farm with old house on it.   The  wooden   floor has given way . How do I go about replacing it?

Answer
Hi Robert, this is a tricky question to answer because I'm not sure what you mean by "the floor has given away".  Do you mean the floor joists are rotten and the structure holding up the floor has failed?  Or is it just the flooring, the wood covering the joists that needs replacing?
Replacing the flooring can be as easy as prying the old stuff up and either replacing it with similar material or replacing it with plywood subfloor and then covering that with finish flooring.

If the joists need replacing then you need to get under the house and start removing the bad ones and replacing them with like material and then renailing the flooring.  Or if the joists and the actual floor sheathing are bad then you rip up the sheathing to expose the joists and then replace the bad joists then resheet the fixed floor with plywood or other suitable subflooring.  I hope this information helps please feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincererly bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
