Question
There are ceiling tile in the kitchen. They were put up using furring strips on top of drywall. Do you think it would be ok to finish the existing drywall if it is decent shape or should it be replaced? If it needs replacing can I go over the top of it with new or should I remove it also?

Answer
Hi Tommy, drywall is pretty tough stuff.  If you can get the furring strips off fairly easily you can generally refinish it without too many problems.  The answer to your next question is yes you can drywall over the top of the old drywall or over the furring strips provided they are secured properly.  I hope this info helps please feel free to write again regarding this or other matters sincerely, bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
