Building Homes or Extensions/house skirting

Question
Hi Ted, I would like to know where is the skirting of a house located? What does it look like? I've been trying to search online but haven't found any answers. I was going through my inspection report. (I bought the house 1year and a half ago) and little by little have been doing the recommendations from the inspector. On the report it says that "wood destroying fungus damage noted  at the area marked" (skirting). If I have this repaired who is the appropriate person to hire?

Answer
Elsa,

Skirting is a term normally used in the context of mobile homes or other structures without continuous foundations.  It is the finish material, normally wood, that encloses the space beneath your home, keeping pests and wind out.  It is non-structural - that is, it doesn't hold up the home, but it does serves some important functions.  A carpenter or handyman will be able to advise you on the best options  and costs to repair or replace your skirting.
